Green Cay … Odds and Ends

Just a real quick post to show a few of the returning Winter residents.   These guys, with the exception of the Spoonbill have all returned in the last couple of weeks.  I’ll let the pictures do the talking this week!

Pied-billed Grebe ... We did have one Grebe that Summered with us but in the last two weeks their numbers have gone up to a half dozen or so.

Blue-winged Teal ... Always nice when these guys first come back. Hopefully a few of their cousins will visit us this year!

Ruby-throated Hummingbird ... He was protecting his perch from another Hummer and dozens of Dragonflies!

Roseate Spoonbill ... I probably have a couple dozen shots of these guys on this particular snag but can't help myself anytime the sun and sky are this cooperative!!

Still pretty slow going in South Florida but as the saying goes … any day birding is better than a day working!   Thanks for stopping by and God Bless!

About sheriffsmith

I have worked for the Broward County Sheriff's Office the last 13 years and spend most of my free time birdwatching / naturewatching and photographing the birds and nature that I encounter. I believe God has blessed us with a world that is so absolutely fascinating and wonderful and I'm doing my best to discover and show others all that he has provided us with in nature.

  3. Love the grebe photo on top, what detail!

  4. I think the Pie bill lives in my back yard during the summer. They nest down the road from my house at the wildlife sanctuary
