Lake Okeechobee

I had some hope of adding a couple new species today.  I thought with visiting some new areas I might get lucky.  I did get one new species today and a nice Savannah Sparrow to boot.

Black Skimmer ... Palm Beach County Big Year Bird #142

I started the morning at the Pahoke Marina right on the lake.  There were many people already fishing and it wasn’t even light out.  The pier is huge and contained a couple of hundred Laughing and Ring-billed Gulls, Ruddy Turnstones, Brown Pelicans and a hundred or so Black Skimmers.  The Skimmers were on three different parts of the pier.  I never thought of this species when I made my plans but was happy to pick up a new one.

I then went to the Glades Marina and Campground in Belle Glade.  I biked about 8 miles and the only picture I took was of this little beauty.

I got some much-needed exercise and enjoyed another day outside with nature … what more could I ask for!  Thanks for stopping by!

About sheriffsmith

I have worked for the Broward County Sheriff's Office the last 13 years and spend most of my free time birdwatching / naturewatching and photographing the birds and nature that I encounter. I believe God has blessed us with a world that is so absolutely fascinating and wonderful and I'm doing my best to discover and show others all that he has provided us with in nature.
